Did you watch the Presidents address last night? we did too. I know the economy is bad- how could I not, right? I mean there are signs everywhere- our street alone has at least 4 homes (that I know of) that are in foreclosure. I live in one of the hardest hit areas in the nation- and I'm moving to another one of the hardest hit areas for foreclosure......Friends have lost their jobs- and I'm sure people who I care about (but have not shared) are up late at night wondering "what are we going to do"........ yet here we sit fine. I'm filled with guilt over that. I don't worry how my family will eat tomorrow- I'm lucky enough to stay home with my kids - they have clean clothes- go on vacation and college will be an option for them. I don't say this as bragging- it is, funny enough, a burden I carry during these times. Yet, only a few short years ago- when everyone around me was "living the life"......we didn't. We always felt that living within our means was important for our future- we are a military family-and although are comfortable- we by no means will EVER get rich off of this career choice. So friends were buying designer houses, upgrading their cars, going on luxurious vacations......we carried on with our very affordable but "truly middle class" lifestyle". And now- that lifestyle seems indulgent almost........I am proud that we have lived a responsible life- yet feel guilt that we are not struggling-

Someone mentioned that they did not think Obama could meet the expectations placed on him....that he was taking on too much at one time and he was not capable of the task......here is my response.....

can he do it alone? absolutely not- but what he can do is inspire the American people to do their part- and I think yesterday his speech was proof that he IS capable of that. I don't think it is anyone's expectation that the President can change our circumstances- not alone anyway. Bush did not make this mess alone and Obama can not clean it up alone.....we ALL have responsibility and the collective American people have been sitting by long enough giving away OUR power.....it is time to take back the control and get involved- expect more- more from our leaders and most importantly more from ourselves......the line I say most to my children is so perfect for this "Stop expecting more from the people around you than you yourself are willing to give"......that should be the motto we take into this next term- and then maybe our country will prosper!

I've been neglecting this blog- so both of you who read it please accept my apology! We've had a lot on our plate these last few weeks and not just the holidays!

We've had a birthday in our house.....Jr. Spaceman turned 8. Yes, 8! How do I have an 8 year old? We took 10 of his friends ice skating and had a blast. It was really so much fun.

We've been dealing with the flu- yuck. It is quite possible that I will never ever be able to see, smell or eat chocolate ice cream after seeing what I saw.....and had to clean up.

and the news that has thrown me for a loop is we are moving to Vegas....yes, as in Las Vegas Nevada. We are guessing we move in July- hoping is more like it though. That way the kids will be done with school but the new schools will not have started yet. Vegas is not what we had in mind AT ALL......we were hoping to stay on the east coast- and possibly a bit more north-

I have been very emotional about Obama winning this election- I stood right up and cheered when they announced his victory- and then my eyes filled with tears....happy tears. Our country voted for change- we voted for hope- and it was a victory filled with passion. There will not be a recount- no protesting in the streets- our victory was won without controversy........and for that I am a very very thankful American.

I look at my boys- proud, intelligent compassionate boys- and think they get to live in an America that does not know limits- no limits for them and no limits for their friends.....I am proud.

I look at my daughter- intelligent, compassionate and a survivor and think- you get to live in an America that no longer will judge you because you look different.....you will be judged on what you bring to the table......I am proud.

I look at my husband - smart, hard working, willing to sacrifice for people he's never met and I think ahhhhh- you serve your country now and you can believe!.....I am proud.

I am proud! I am inspired! I am filled with hope!

I would also like to say that I am also very thankful for John McCain- he is a true American hero- he has served his country for his whole adult life and although I do not agree with many of his politics I would have supported his presidency.

this is a new day- a new start- one filled with potential......I am excited!

I lived in England for 4 years and it never rained this much in such a short period of time........everything is flooded- my oldest and youngest had ONE day of school and my new Kindergartner has not gone at all yet........this is day three of stranded home because of Fay- she's mean she's persistent and she does not like Brevard County........but truly, we are fortunate compared to some. Our street is not flooded (I swear one of the few in this county) we have not lost power (and many have)........but ohhhhhh how I hope the schools are open tomorrow! Pictures of the first day of school to come later.....

the kids start school on Monday- so we are turning off the phones, shutting down the internet and heading to the beach for one last breath of summer..........between school, soccer and the kids' social schedules there isn't much time during the school year to just kick up our feet and enjoy being a family together without distractions.........

*yeah I know we live 10 minutes from the ocean.......but this way I don't have to cook or make beds!

The house that could not get healthy.....

Once upon a time in a land placed directly on the sun a family spent their days trying not to be sick- let me introduce the cast.......
Frankenstitch- 3 years old. favorite food: "pucker roni pizza" favorite toy: whatever her brothers have. most often heard saying: "yuc a do" (translates to "yes I do") She has no fear, no boundaries and apparently no balance- she flings herself head first into granite requiring lots of towels to stop bleeding and 6 stitches.

next up:
Virus Boy- 7 years old. favorite food: whatever you put in front of him. Favorite toy: his ripstick. Most often heard saying: sorry.He rarely gets sick but when he does- look out- it is the virus that keeps on mutating- nothing seems to help and just when you think you beat it- surprise- fever back, patches on his throat.....a cough that won't quit- but alas, no strep.....just wait it out the doc says.....virus boy flings his long hippy hair out of his face and says "sure doc, I can do that".

and finally for your laughing and pointing pleasure:
Gunk Eye- 5 years old. Favorite food- depends on the day (he's a moody eater like his meeme). Favorite toy: toss up between his wii and his scooter. Most often heard saying: "that's what you get". He likes to keep up with the Jones'- not to be outdone by frankenstitch and virus boy Gunk eye conjured up a bacterial infection in his right eye spontateously today around 3pm- I guess he took the phrase "Your up MonkeyMan" to heart. He was a real trooper at the doctor's office- not complaining once- he smiled, won them over with that smile and somehow walked out of the pharmacy with a gallon of ice cream for his troubles.......

Stay tuned for our next addition of "The house that could not get healthy". Will it be the husband? Will Frankenstitch out do herslef and break a bone? Will Virus Boy ACTUALLY contract a disease with a cure? or will Gunk eye mutate into ball of puss and spread his ickiness all over the land......who knows, what you can be sure of is that the mom will not get a day off- even if it ends up being her turn to catch something!

Today we celebrate the princess! She woke up to a "balloon carpet" and lots of presents- we will spoil her rotten today- there will be "cup a cakes", a new bike, games and other gifts....we will spend the morning at her favorite park with friends and enjoy a "puker roni" pizza later......saturday will be her birthday party........today is all about the girl- the picture above is after her first haircut- and pics from the 4th- there is a lot of celebrating going on in this house this week!!!!!

she lit up the room with her smile- she was nervous, so were we. She took a leap of faith and trusted us. We loved her without hesitation-

One year ago today Princess E.:

could not feed herself

had not had solid food

was a "wobbly" walker

did not speak any language

did not know what to do with a ball

could not swim

could not pick up small objects

had not seen a bike

could not dress herself

did not play with other children

one year later she:

eats with gusto!

eats nearly whatever you put in front of her

runs to get from A to B

Never. stops. talking. ever.

keeps up with her brothers on the soccer field

swims like a fish

laces beads on string

rides a scooter as fast as any other almost 3 year old I know!

dresses herself (many times a day)

had many friends, knows them by name and plays nonstop until they go home!

My baby has come a long way- I am so proud of all that she has accomplished- it was a tough year for her and she has gotten through it with so much grace- she is such a brave little girl- so trusting, so full of love- she has her mama and daddy wrapped around her little finger....her brothers too! I'm excited to see what the next year has in store for all of us- no doubt it will be full of surprises!

9 Months!!!!!

Nine months ago today I was in China meeting my daughter for the first time! She was a sea of pink frilliness and finally (finally!) right in front of us! We had held her photo for 10 months- burned that image into our minds and onto our hearts- and there she was- so small, so afraid- so perfect. The last 9 months have been a dream come true- we are so blessed to have her in our lives- amazing that somehow we have managed to fill our home with the 3 most perfect children for our family!

ps- I'd like to add a congrats to the other Nanjing Princess (you can see her being held in the top photo) who is celebrating 9 months today........can't wait to see you guys in May!

Hope you all had a great Easter- we had a lot of fun hunting for Easter eggs- eating chocolate and enjoying the warm weather- This was Princess E's first egg hunt- she had so much fun- my favorite moment was when she opened her first egg and yelled "wooooooow, cooooooool"!!!!! The boys were so helpful and waited for her at each hiding spot- it was so much fun to watch the 3 of them together.

Yeah Me....I've been tagged by a great family (http://4redlanterns.blogspot.com/ ) who will always hold a special place in my heart.....I met them in China- our daughters are from the same SWI and I love that they'll have that connection- so here it goes:

1) I'm full Irish- both of my parents have had a sibling that has delved into their heritage and straight through we are Irish.......funny enough, my husband is almost everything EXCEPT Irish! (My boys say they are half Irish and half daddy!)

2) I am seriously afraid of mice and anything that resembles a mouse- to include the pet hamster in my son's preschool class.....the teacher and kids find it funny to chase me around the room with Mo.

3) I was born and raised in Upstate NY right around the corner from my husband- we miss the area and can not wait to move back....some day....when he retires.

4) I have freakishly strong (yet small) hands and can give a great massage.

5) I am the reigning backgammon champion- NOBODY has beaten me since sometime in 2006. (I suppose I should mention that I only play my husband!)

6) I love to travel but I do not prefer to do "touristy" things.....I like to get lost in the city/town and hang out with the locals.

7) I get excited very easily but do not handle the anticipation that comes with that very well.......

6 months already? It amazes me how slooooooow 6 months went while we were waiting to bring this beauty home- but now that she is here time is flying! She has come along way in these past 6 months- and every day is an adventure- we are so blessed to be her family- I hope she realizes just how much she is loved and how very very wanted she is........The top pic is our third day together in China.......the rest are of the last month- she has gained 2 pounds and grown 2 inches!!!!!!

but (my baby)- my oldest is 7.......how is that possible? He was born in England on a Sunday morning- one of the happiest days of my life. He is everything a mom could want in a son....He is bright, handsome, polite, adventurous, a fantastic big brother and so very thoughtful......seven is bringing some challenges I didn't expect- he has become a tad bit sassy but I think he is trying out things he hears at school- many of them are NOT going over well at home- but the one positive thing I can say is he doesn't repeat the phrase once I explain that it is not appropriate.......much like his father he never repeats a mistake.....although watch out for one bigger and better right around the corner! We love you Jr. Spaceman.....you make us soooo proud.

Princess E is so much a part of our family that it is hard to believe we are only celebrating 2 months since I stepped off that plane with her in Florida.........she loves her brothers and they love her- she follows their every move- and looks to them for guidance in new situations- her and I have bonded in ways that I did not think possible in such a short amount of time- she hugs, gives kisses and I swear when I tell her I love her she tries her hardest to repeat me......she is bright- clever, funny and ohhhhh so sweet......stubborn too- she fits into this family perfectly. We are blessed beyond measure- I wish this for everyone.........

This is a day that brings so much emotion- a day where sadness, fear and anger take over. A day none of us will ever forget- or ever forgive.........I was in my empty house in England when I heard- we had spent the last 4 years living abroad and we were packed and ready to move back to the States- our plans were postponed for a bit- we were on edge- everyone we loved and cared about lives in NY- and I had already shut my phone off. I cradled my 9 month old son and cried- I looked to my husband for protection- we moved onto the Military base where the soldiers were in full battle gear- just incase. We were searched each and every time we tried to come back on to the base- it took hours. England was so good to us- they were compassionate, they lost souls too. Their flags payed respect to our country- they held moments of silence in the grocery stores........Every year when this date falls- we remember we are sad once again.

Now, I sit here on the eve of the worst day in our countries history and I am filled with mixed emotion- 6 years ago was the saddest day in my life.......1 year ago my family was completed. September 11, 2006 we were matched with our daughter- our family was completed on the anniversary of a day that tore families apart........bitter sweet.

So today I sent both of my boys off to school- Monkey man started preschool for the first time- he looked so little walking down the hall to go to his class- I'll admit, I had second thoughts "one more year at home and then I'll send him".....but he is ready. He had a fantastic first day and is exhausted! Jr. spaceman started 1st grade- he loves school and couldn't wait to get back- I think he was a little nervous as only 2 kids from his kindergarten class are in his new class- but he makes friends so easily. Princess E had a hard time saying goodbye- each time we dropped off one of her brothers she'd run back into the classroom- find her brother and sign "come with me"! she cried a little bit but settled right in when she realized she no longer had to share me! Why is it that last week I was at the end of my rope and ready for them to start school and today I miss them and can't wait for them to get home?

One month home.......

we've been home a bit over a month now and it still seems like a dream! She is smart, funny and stubborn! She loves music, her brothers and crayons. She came to me not knowing how to chew- she eats pizza now. She had no idea what to do with a ball- now she can shoot a basketball.......she is amazing. I think about what this little girl- this baby- has gone through in her little life- the loss, the change and I am in awe of her bravery. At one day old she survived the loss of her birth family. At just under 2 years old she survived the loss of the only home she had ever known. 2 weeks later she traveled half way around the world with a women who she did not know and did not understand- and survived. She is blossoming. She is full of life and clearly wants to experience every moment.........I'm having to remind myself to slow down...there is no rush......she is home.

okay- so although the transition with the princess is going well I have had my doubts as to whether or not I can parent 3 kids by myself for 6 months- (DH is away at a military school until Dec)

well, so far- 1 week into it I've dealt with 2 kids with a fever, grocery shopping, 3 different bedtime routines, baths, activities and 1 urgent care visit.......all children have eaten 3 meals EVERY day (me, well that is another story!)- I have not started drinking or seeking out the soccer mom with the "good stuff"......so far- I think we are going to make it.......no promises though!

She is a DREAM!

Wow! what a trip. We were upgraded on our trip over so that was a GREAT way to begin our journey. We had so many layovers and stops that it took a very long time to get to China- but once there we took it all in. Nanjing had so many beautiful places to visit and the Haagen Daaz right next to our hotel was a nice touch! Our daughter came to the Civil Affairs Office the morning of July 2- we got there early so we watched her van pull up and she walked right in- she got pretty nervous when she saw so many new people in there (there were 3 other families meeting their children that same day!) She cried a bit but would play with us as long as she sat in the (not hers) nanny's lap. She eventually went to us but was still a bit timid. By the end of the 1st day we had her in smiles- she napped for us, ate, pooped and slept through the night- and although we have our share of 2 year old temper tantrums (she turned 2 six days after we met her) she has transitioned well and is quite attached to us. My husband had to leave 2 days after we arrived in China so I did the rest of the trip by myself- by the time we left Nanjing she was giving me kisses, hugs and even calling me Mama! (ahhhh- are there sweeter words?)- We had a nice time in GZ- enjoyed the shopping- not the weather! (hot and HUMID....and don't forget, I live in Florida!)- I also enjoyed not feeling like my very own circus show- Nanjing was lovely but we definitely stood out- and yes, they LOVE to check out blue eyes!-
The shopping was amazing- in both places- and we saw a few instances of the split pants in action.........I thank God everyday that kids do not use our sidewalks in America as their personal toilets!
China was amazing- I so enjoyed the experience and I will be forever grateful for my precious beautiful perfect daughter- but I am glad to be home- I missed my boys, my bed and ice- and she is HOME!
The boys and the princess are getting along great- they play together and have found lots of ways to communicate....basically, Ms. E. has her brothers (and her parents!) wrapped around those tiny little fingers......

Our CA date is July 11th- YES, I KNOW.....that is really soon! we are looking at leaving either on the 30th or the 27th.....we should know more tomorrow- my husband can only do the beginning of the trip so the quick turn around is due to that.....we'll have her in our arms before her 2nd birthday- I can not believe the journey to our daughter is almost over........I feel like a child on a huge sugar high- and so much to do but I have no idea where to begin!!!!!!! WE ARE GOING TO CHINA!!!!!!!!!

I can not stand the cuteness! Our LOA is driving around Beijing right now waiting to be delivered. It is a really good feeling to know in a few hours the powers that be will know that YES! OH MY GOD- I've been a ball of nervous energy all day- and now I know why! My agency called (during the 4 minutes I was at the bus stop waiting for Jr. Spaceman!) and said my LOA had arrived today! Finally- there is an end in site and my baby girl WILL be home soon. We are only on day 70 of the wait (LID to LOA) so this is pretty fast- others have waited over 200 days.....so I'm feeling like a very lucky girl! Holy cow- this is really happening!!!!!!!!

Then this morning I log on to my computer and SURPRISE! a new picture of the princess! originally my rant today was going to be about the wait.....but I'm putting that post aside for another day because this one deserves to be heard.

I am so mad. Our children go to school for 6ish hours a day- 5 days a week and one teacher provides them an education- she loves our kids, she nurtures them, and she fills their brains with tons and tons of good things (I know this because my son gives me a play by play of each waking moment in the classroom!)

So here it is the week before teacher appreciation week at our school and our teacher says please, I have plenty- if you must do something please help me donate to the orphanage I volunteer at in the summer. As the room mom it is my responsibility to rally the other parents together and organize this- which I do as it is close to my heart too.

3 people folks....that is all.....3 people donated. Well, 4 if you count me. These are not struggling families- these are very comfortable, nice car driving, expensive house owning families......and I'm not even asking for a set amount.....it was left open to donate what you could.......

One of the moms is the "team mom" for our sons soccer team- she is collecting for the end of year coaches gift- great coach- I'd love to donate- she somehow thinks that the coach should get more than HER SONS TEACHER......"she after all, gets paid"......so I took it upon my very angry self to educate her on just how much she does for our children- how much of her own money gets spent on our children- how she is often found in the classroom on Saturday and vacations preparing things for our children- do you think she got it........no.

I LOVE TEACHERS. I think that they should be paid one of the highest salaries in our country- I do not care what a district pays- it is NOT enough. I've seen a day in the life of a teacher- and it is hard- it is exhausting- I'm not saying it isn't without its rewards....but each and every reward is earned and earned the hard way.

If I hear the argument one more time about how teachers only work half a year I think I may go crazy- that is how many days our children go to school- not how many days a teacher works. They are in there before we drop our kids off, they are there after we pick them up- they are there on weekends, vacations and all of the mandated teacher in service days. Most are even contracted to work a certain number of hours over the summer.

So that is my rant. These very comfortable people will not or have forgotten to donated to the teacher appreciation gift- one that she is using to help less fortunate children.......amazing.

Finally! Our agency notified us today that we are LID on March 8.......this is the date I had predicted so it is nice to not be disappointed! So we are roughly a month into the wait for LOA (another form waiting families have to sign committing to our child). The time from LID to this form is anywhere from 75 days to 108 days.....hoping we make history and get it in under 50 days (yup, I'm living in the clouds).
Then we wait for TA- so all in all I really have no idea when we are going to China to pick up our precious daughter. Hoping we get there before her 2nd birthday (July 8th) but now not so sure..........we just want her home!!!!!!!

It is amazing how I am able to "trick" myself into things...........here is an example:

**Once our dossier consultant has all of our docs I'll be fine- yes, they'll still have to be certified and notorized but WE'LL be done so I can relax........

**Once everything is certified and notorized I'll be fine because then it is all just a waiting game anyway- by then I'll be good because my part will be done.......

CaiWei's room is almost done- I've made her crib quilt- she has toys and books- her light fixture is up and her dresser and closet are full- now I just need my baby girl. (oh- and a toy box!) Here's to hoping for the world's fastest SN TA.......

a mad rush of CCAA workers trying to clear their desks before they all take off on holiday- so of course we'll be logged in in record time......and be waiting for review when CNY is over.......and of course because all workers will be properly rested and in the BEST mood- we'll pass review with flying colors- then there is nothing to do but wait for TA- which of course will happen in record time........

This is the baby Stella doll by Manhattan toys- I got it off of ebay for under $20 and that included shipping.....well, the doll came today and it is the CUTEST doll- it is so soft and sweet- the pacifier is a magnet- so she has a cute little smile when you take the pacifier off- not an open mouth for "things" to get stuck in......ours came dressed in a bunny hat and sweet kimono style PJ's.....also very soft- Monkey man, my 3 year old, just undressed it (of course) and there is a cloth diaper! highly recommend this doll- and the seller- the store is MidWest Merchandisers.....he shipped very fast and the package arrived in great condition- Manhattan toys also makes clothes and accessories for this doll- the doll comes in beige (the one we got), peach and brown- nice that they realize the need for many shades!- well, I'm off to bid on a few of the accessories! (we'll just tell Spaceman that it is to put away for Cai Wei's birthday!)

**** Yes! Our Consultant just confirmed that she has our authenticated I-171H!!!! She will overnight it to our agency on Monday morning and they will have it Tuesday- shouldn't be a problem being DTC on Friday!!!!! FANTASTIC weekend!!!!!*********

No not DTC yet.....BUT~ I noticed a charge for a fedex delivery that could ONLY be our I-171H heading back to our dossier consultant fully AUTHENTICATED!!!!! That is it friends! Our consultant has promised to overnight the document to our agency and hopefully it will be all in time to make the mailing this Friday!!!!!! How great is that! I'm not sure how long the package will take to get to China~ but now the race is on for it to arrive before CNY........ This is so exciting-

If nothing else we will all be able to get jobs as detectives when this is over!!!!!

That is right folks! Just waiting on the I-171H to be authenticated (mailed to the consulate today) and then we can be DTC! The remainder of our docs are at the agency as we speak going through review (hoping they pass with flying colors!)......our last docs to travel through authentication at the Houston Consulate were in and out in 8 days- (and that is counting the weekend).....here's to hoping it is even faster since we are far enough away from the holiday's to not still be feeling that backlog......during moments of sanity I laugh at myself because being a military family we are soooooo used to the motto "hurry up and wait"......boy this process is just like that! I did, however, take up a few projects to make the waiting go faster- problem is I've been a "Martha Stewart on speed" so they projects are taking 2 days max to complete! I'll post pics of the rag quilt I made for Cai Wei's crib......it was my first sewing project- and I'm self taught so be nice! I should take pics now since I've washed it....the "ragging" that happens after a trip through the washer and dryer is amazing!
The next project is sanding down a table the boys had- they have a lot of kid sized tables so bringing another one into the house was not an option (so says Spaceman!) so I've decided to girl up the boys animal table- I'm painting it white and then I'll paint one of the chairs pink and the other purple.......I'll put it in her room with a little tea set on it and hopefully the end result will match the vision in my head!
Any other ideas for projects while we all wait?

Anyone have this doll or has anyone seen one in person? I am considering getting this doll for Cai Wei and bringing it to China- I like that it is a rag doll- I also like that the pacifier is magnetic and that I can get it new for under $20 on eBay!
It is made by Manhattan toys and she is called Baby Stella- she comes in Peach or Beige......they also carry a stroller, clothes and accessories for her- kind of cute, don't you think?

Bush to order about 20,000 more troops to Iraq

I am in no way a political genious- but...
I'm saddened that more of our countrymen/women will have to lay down their lives for this war.
I'm saddened that Mothers and Fathers will say goodbye to their children hoping and praying it is not the last time.
I'm saddened that wives/husbands will spend endless nights praying for their spouses return.
I'm saddened that some will spend the next few weeks on pins and needles wondering if their loved one will be sent.
I'm saddened that children will not understand why daddy/mommy is leaving AGAIN.
I'm saddened that men will not see their babies be born.
I'm saddened that most of us grew up without knowing war and our children can not say the same thing.......
Today, I'm sad.

FBI- well, my fingerprints should be back today- I should know whether this set was acceptable or not.....but no, the universe has one last laugh at me and decides to "break" the computer at "the ladies" desk- they also ordered the wrong part- so who knows how long I'll be waiting for this to sort itself out- I find it very hard to believe that the Orlando office has one computer to retrieve this information on.......hmmmmm makes me think they'll be asking for more money some time soon!

I have no idea why the pictures are being posted so oddly but here she is! More pics! This is just what I needed this morning to take my mind off of the latest hurdle and truthfully it gave me the energy and motivation to plug along at warp speed! She is getting so big- and we are so eager to bring her home and love on those cheeks!!!! It was so good to see the picture of her crawling- we have been wondering if she was doing this and it makes me think she isn't going to be too far behind her peers in skills........It is good to see she has the muscle strength needed to do this. Her lip looks great too- I've blown up these pics looking for any sign that maybe she'll need more surgery and although I'm no expert......it sure looks good to me! I can't wait to bring her home! Aghhhhh those eyes!!!!!!

I have been stalking the mailman- seriously stalking him.....I sit in my window and watch him slowly drive down the other side of the street- and when he hits a certain house I know it is time to put on my shoes and get down to the mailbox.........I "just know" every morning that my I-171H is going to be there....well, when it wasn't there AGAIN on Thursday I called my social worker who had an email address for "the lady"....I emailed her not expecting to hear anything back but the typical.....we are processing your application as quickly as possible....blah blah blah......well- NO I WAS WRONG. Instead I heard......well- I just sent out a letter today (Thursday the 4th of Jan) that your wife will need to redo her fingerprints.....WHAT- ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I had them done originally on Nov. 4th- so it took 2 months to figure out they weren't good prints? (digital prints, mind you). and to date.....I still do not have the letter. THANK GOD that the women is kind and compassionate- I told her that Cai Wei is waiting for us and she emailed me to get myself up to Orlando by 1pm on Saturday and they'd find a way to fit me in (wasn't too hard either since we were the only people in the waiting room!) so now we wait again to find out if these prints are good. She promised she'd let me know either way ASAP and no later than Wed. plus, I kept her phone number........I'll be stalking her now!

The only good thing that came from this is I haven't cleaned a thing from Thursday until I came home today- convinced my husband that it was from cleaning products and we really couldn't risk it! He suggested maybe I should get a manicure to help the hands along......but called me out when I suggested that maybe a pedicure too would help even more!!!!!!!

are my two front teeth! Jr. Spaceman lost his 2nd bottom tooth yesterday! He was very excited to find the Tooth Fairy came again last night and left him a silver dollar! This is a picture of him after he lost his 1st tooth- I was so excited for him I forgot to snap a picture..maybe later! (the schools are still using the plastic tooth on a string to put your tooth in- brought back a lot of memories seeing that around his neck!!!)

Jr. Spaceman is 6 years old! Which in the world of Kindergarten is apparently HUGE! He also lost a tooth right before his birthday and that too was a very big deal! All day long on Sunday the only thing this boy would say is "I can not believe I am 6 years old and only have 19 teeth"! Me neither!
At one point he looked at me and said- next year will be even better because my sister will be with us- all too true! I'm so glad he is excited about this adoption- and already loves his little sister......I hope he is always this sweet.

Wow, I haven't done one of these in a long time! Actually, I realize way too late (usually Thursday!) that I forgot to post- so finally here we go!

Part of our Thanksgiving turkey eating is making turkey soup Friday morning. I love the way it makes the house smell like Thanksgiving all over again. Part of the problem is the soup is too hot for the little ones at lunch time. While the soup is simmering and just about done I fill extra ice cube trays with the broth and freeze them- that way when we heat up the soup for lunch I can pop a couple of "soup cubes" in the boys bowls so the soup cools down but does not lose the flavor! Also, we have a bunch of different ways to eat the soup in this family and to keep me sane here is another trick.......one of my boys prefers noodles in his soup while the 2 of us want rice and the big guy......no extras please! So I boil up some noodles, cook the rice and keep them in separate containers when reheating the soup I put the desired extras in the bowl and let the soup (once hot) reheat the rice/noodles.......works for us!

This is our first holiday season down south and I'm telling you I am having trouble getting in the holiday mood while still in shorts. I'm originally from NY and by now it is cold- coats on waiting for the snow cold. I just realized I have 2 weeks until Turkey day and 3 weeks until Jr. Spaceman's 6th birthday which in turn reminds me.......a little over a month until Christmas.....I'VE DONE NOTHING! I think I need to come up with a name for my new disorder......it is something like jet lag and seasonal affective disorder combined.....or is it just denial?.....I'll get back to you!

****back to the insurance problem.....my husband (God love him) took matters into his own hands- got the papers signed and now nasty lady and nasty lady's boss are very very angry (didn't like the "tone" of his email....to which I say: use a different voice while reading then).......which in the military is NOT a good thing.....luckily my husband is liked in his squadron so enough people (and rank) are backing him on this one......phew!

Today we ventured out onto the Air Force Base.....had to get Jr. Spaceman's TB test and get our proof of insurance....seems like 2 very easy tasks to me....I figured I'd be home in time to watch Oprah! NOOOOOOOOO. The first I'll admit TOTALLY my fault- can't have a PPD done today because Friday is a down day and the lab will not be open to read the results. Yup, I goofed- I should have remembered it was veterans day and nothing would be open on base. Easy- no problem, I'll go back next week.

So I walk on over (2 kids in tow) to the Tricare office (our insurance)......"Hi, my name is M. and my husband and I are adopting a little girl from China. Our agency needs proof that we are insured by Tricare and in the event of a successful adoption our daughter will be covered too".....
Nasty lady: "I'm not signing anything". seriously that is what she said.
Me: well, why not?
Nasty lady: because I'm not allowed to. My boss says so. (I swear, I couldn't make this stuff up)
Me: Okay, then can I speak to your boss?
Nasty Lady: Well, you'll have to wait, I'm in the middle of something else right now".
Me: oooooookaaaaay.
Nasty Lady's boss: well, I'm going to tell you the same thing she told you.
and trust me this goes on and on and on.
THEY WILL NOT SIGN ANYTHING SAYING THAT TRICARE COVERS ADOPTED CHILDREN JUST LIKE A BIOLOGICAL CHILD.......

I nearly lost my mind- I pulled the "it is the law" thing.....they know that by the way. I used tears.....didn't budge them......I pulled out pictures....heartless drones barely even looked. So we left with promise to be back tomorrow.-

we get home and my 5 year old says to me "Mama, don't worry about them- they are just chicken lickers anyway"!!!!!! So true Jr. Spaceman!

I'm calling my agency tomorrow and will see if they will accept a print off of the website that clearly states they WILL cover an adopted child- amazing.

Bad picture, I know.....I was trying to be sneaky and not let them notie me......but this is what I "caught" my boys doing before bed the other night. Jr. Spaceman has learned to read and his brother brought him a book and asked him to read it! It was one of the sweetest moments. (Especially nice after an afternoon of fighting!!!!)

How fun! S over at Picklechatter (http://picklechatter.blogspot.com/) was on her way to Orlando and since I was in her path we set up a meet!!!! The are a lovely family- so much fun! The time flew by and before we knew it they had to go but I really enjoyed getting to know her and her family- we chatted like we had been family friends forever and so much in common too! (Even the husbands were talking nonstop!) I can't wait to do it again....maybe next time in your neck of the woods! The best part was watching the kids play like they had grown up next door to each other....I love that about kids- I can't wait until Cai Wei and CiCi are here- then we'll really have our hands full!!!!!! Thanks S. for taking time out of your schedule to meet us- I really enjoyed it and look forward to getting to know you and your family better! (funny note: .....as we asked for a picture to be taken by the husbands they both joked that this felt like blog material and then went into how they are afraid to speak now because we may publish the conversation!!!)

9 years ago I married my best friend! I feel so blessed to still feel that way about "Spaceman".....He isn't here so we will not celebrate our anniversary until the weekend but I hope he knows I am thinking about him today and that magical day 9 years ago where we promised each other forever.......and for my 10th anniversary?.......hopefully CCAA will surprise us with an early trip to China!

I cleaned for that? seriously- what was I worried about....okay okay- don't throw things, I know you all told me not to worry and to relax but man I sure was stressed- we had a birthday party at 2:30 and I thought I had plenty of time to finish up when we got back but I totally got talking to the other moms and it was 6pm before I realized it! AGH- quick run to publix...fix small platter of food- last minute straighten up- quick run vacuum again.....spray febreze! and then wait........she had another homestudy appt. a town or two over but when she got here she was so sweet and nice- she has 2 daughters from China and we chatted about them- about my boys- and went over paperwork.....she's coming again next saturday for the big interview......she was about to leave and I asked her (you were right Shan!) if she wanted to see the house......she said sure a "quick" tour would be fine......and that was it. Good thing she is so relaxed because when we meet her next sat. we'll be right off of the beach as the boys have another birthday party to go to........one step closer to Cai Wei!!!!!

First. Home. Study. Appointment. Is. Saaaaaatuuuuurdaaaaay!!!!!!! I'm so nervous- my hands are shaking as I type this and if I have to hit the backspace button one more time for a typo I'm going to scream! I have to clean- declutter- remind the boys of their manners....OMG their playroom is a mess! no time to get the carpets cleaned.....she won't look in closets right?.....RIGHT? and does it matter if my garage is unorganized?.......we don't beat our kids and I threw away the spinach when they found it could kill us.....that is a plus right?! well, too much work to do- have to go......

well, thank God that day is over! it got worse before it got better but I did stay home (except to pick up my son from school and that resulted in me locking myself out of the house......don't ask!) but it DID get better and the day had to end so that was a good thing!

Jr. Spaceman had his day with the universe today- he loves loves loves school but the girl drama has already begun. As his teacher says he is quite the ladies man- I'm not sure if he asks for it or if it just happens but either way the girls were catty today. The first dance (yes, kindergarten is invited!) is this friday. His friend (who is a girl) and him decided they would dance together at the dance.......this decision apparently resulted in girls crying, yelling and eventually my son feeling like he let everyone down. Poor kid. It worked itself out as it always does- but that poor teacher! I really feel for her. On a cute note he asked me for money tonight. I asked him why and he said he wanted to pay for said girl because it was a date! (can you imagine?) I told him that he was WAY to young to be dating and that in this house if you want to take a girl out on a date you first have to ask the girls father for permission. He thought about it for a minute and said- "nevermind, I do not need money- it isn't a date- but can I still dance with her"? Too funny!!!!! but smart!

It isn't going to be a good day.......

11 days until my husband comes home....not that I am counting or anything! Ususally when he leaves once we are under the two week mark the time flies- I have to catch up on laundry- clean the house- get things back in order some when he comes home it doesn't look like I took a "mini-vacation" from housework.....well, this time with Jr. Spaceman in school and Monkey man loving to help- we've kept on top of things so it is dragging around here.....

To top things off- we all have colds- not horrible but we are all cranky and stuffy- just blah. I was pretty sure it was going to be a bad day today when I woke up and couldn't hear because my ears were clogged......I KNEW it was going to be a bad day when I went to make the boys chocolate milk and way too late realized I had grabbed the mayo instead of the chocolate......(inside my head:......does chocolate go bad? does it turn white if it does go bad? This is really weird- I just bought it....smell it.....oh crap this isn't chocolate.......)

I've learned the hard way not to fight it....we'll just stay home today and live with stubbed toes- broken glasses and what ever else the day plans on throwing at me.....If I don't leave the house nothing TOO bad can happen, right?
